Weather and Rain Out Information

Weekday practice:

We try to keep the fields open during the week to accommodate practice as much as possible; however, if significant damage to the fields will occur, we will close the fields. If inclement weather exists, coaches and managers should determine whether they want to practice. No practice should be held if lightning or dangerous conditions exist. During practices, stay out of trouble areas, especially around the goal areas.

Weekend Games:

Game information is posted on on the LTYA Website on Saturday's around 6:30am , Sundays around 9am.

If no current update is shown, call the LTYA Hotline, 263-5674, for information.

Rainout and Lightning Policy

Rain-Out Procedures

The Field Coordinator, Commissioner, or Director of Coaching usually determines rain out situations. Fields are assessed considering the safety of the kids, current and forecasted conditions, and potential damage to the fields. Please check www.ltya.org and go to the soccer program page to check the rain out information.

We attempt to make a decision by 3pm for weekday practices but sometimes that is not feasible. If uncertain, contact your team manager or coach as they ultimately can decide whether to practice in current conditions even if the fields are open.

Saturday game information is posted as early as possible, usually around 7am. Once a decision has been made to play games that day, referees and coaches (in the lower age group) can make determinations as the day goes on as to playable conditions and especially the safety of the kids.

If no update is shown, you may also call the LTYA Hotline at 263-5674 for information.

If games are cancelled, please do not go out and practice on the fields as damage to the fields may exist.

Lightning Policy

When you first see lightning or hear repeated thunder, suspend activities and seek shelter. A vehicle or a building is a safe place, not underneath a tree. Wait until 30 minutes after the last observed lightning or thunder before resuming activities. If it appears that after 30 minutes of delay the weather will not allow safe play or the weather is not going clear, then cancel the match.

The best shelter is a large, fully enclosed, substantially constructed building. A vehicle with a solid metal roof and metal sides is a reasonable second choice. If there is no proper shelter, avoid the most dangerous locations:

(1) Higher elevations

(2) Wide open areas, including fields

(3) Tall isolated objects, such as trees, poles, or light posts.

(4) Unprotected open buildings

(5) Rain shelters

(6) Bus stops

(7) Metal fences and metal bleachers

Parents please have patience on rain days as games may run behind schedule if weather interruptions have occurred.
